Scope of Responsibility
The Technology and Distance Education Committee K-12 (TDEC) was established by the NAD Union Directors of Education Council and the NAD K-12 Board of Education. This standing committee has been given the responsibility of researching issues in educational technology; developing Adventist distance education policies and guidelines; serving as a resource for distance education course development; reviewing and evaluating technology-based courses and programs; and facilitating the integration of technology in the instructional process.
Philosophy
Technology in the classroom is a tool for teaching and learning rather than the focus of teaching and learning. Proper application of technology enables students and teachers to grow together and lowers barriers in learning experiences. In the hands of Christian teachers and students technology can be used to praise, understand, and share the God of all creation. By integrating faith and technology into the curriculum teachers and students are empowered to gather information, apply knowledge, and gain wisdom to improve our world, and to prepare for heaven.
Distance education is a legitimate vehicle for providing a distinctively Adventist education to students, particularly those who do not have access to traditional Adventist schools. Through collaboration distance education can facilitate the availability of Adventist education and professional development for all learners.
